Network bridging
By default the console server's Management LAN network ports can only be accessed using SSH tunneling/ port forwarding. However all the wired network ports can be bridged:
- Select Enable Bridging on the System: IP General Settings menu
With bridging all the Ethernet ports are transparently connected at the data link layer (layer 2). This provides simple local access to hosts on the management LAN ports however it does remove some of the other features. When bridging is enabled:
- all the Ethernet ports are configured collectively using the Network Interface menu
- the network traffic is forwarded between all Ethernet ports with no firewall restrictions
- all the Management LAN Interface and Out-of-Band/Failover Interface functions
- the DHCP Server is disabled
