To back up and restore the Configuration
It is recommended that you back up the console server configuration whenever you make significant changes (such as adding new Users or Managed Devices) or before performing a firmware upgrade. To save the backup file remotely on your PC:
- Click Save Backup in the Remote Configuration Backup menu in the System: Configuration Backup
- The config backup file System Name_date_config.opg will be downloaded to your PC (you can nominate the location to save it)
Restoring a remote backup is equally simple:
- Click Browse in the Remote Configuration Backup menu and select the Backup File you wish to restore
- Click Restore and click OK. This will overwrite all the current configuration settings in your console server
With some console servers you can save the backup file locally onto the console server USB storage:
- You must first prepare the USB flash
- Ensure the USB flash is the only USB device attached
- Click Prepare Storage in Local Configuration Backup which will set a Volume Label on the USB storage device (only necessary the first time)
- Enter a brief Description in Local Configuration Backups and select Save Backup
To restore a backup from the USB simply select Restore on the particular backup you wish to restore and click Apply
The System: Configuration Backup feature was introduced with v2.8 firmware and earlier releases could only be backed up from the command line (refer faq 302).
To set an alternate default configuration
After saving a local configuration backup to USB flash, you may choose to use it as the alternate default configuration. When the console server is reset to factory defaults, it will then load your alternate default configuration instead of its factory settings. To set an alternate:
- Check Load On Erase for the particular backup that is become the factory default and click Apply
